Libraries are called the temples of reading. And rightly so. They are virtually the center of the lives of those who belong to the 'bookworm cult'. Libraries play a special role in cultural life. From being a haven of silence and relaxation to being a learning centre. Sadly these are being wiped out.

So Book Week Scotland has launched a campaign to get avid readers to write love letters to their temples of reading. Readers from all over the world can now share their memories through GuardianWitness

"I always knew from that moment, from the time I found myself at home in that little segregated library in the South, all the way up until I walked up the stairs of the New York City Library, I always felt, in any town, if I can get to a library, I'll be OK. It really helped me as a child, and that never left me. " - Maya Angelou
